Dublin Airport Arrivals Pickup: How to Find Your Driver Quickly After Landing

Wayszo Editorial14 October 20265 min read

Once you’ve cleared passport control and picked up your bags, walk into the arrivals hall at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and head for the meeting point in your booking. Pre-booked drivers generally can’t wait at the kerb outside, so scanning the road won’t help. Share your flight number when you book, keep your phone on, and message your driver if baggage reclaim is slow.

Landing in Dublin after a long flight and then spending twenty minutes hunting for your driver is a miserable way to start a trip. It happens more than it should. The driver is there, you’re there, and somehow nobody finds anybody. Nearly every time, the cause is something small that could have been sorted before you left home.

Landing time isn’t pickup time

Between touchdown and the arrivals hall you’ve still got taxiing, getting off the plane, passport control, baggage reclaim and sometimes customs. On a quiet morning that’s done in under half an hour. When a few big flights land together it can run past an hour. If you’re arriving from outside the Common Travel Area, allow extra time at immigration.

This is why you want a driver who tracks your flight rather than the clock. Give your flight number at booking and the pickup follows your actual arrival. Wayszo’s system watches the flight in real time and adjusts if you’re early or delayed, so nobody is left waiting and you don’t have to ring anyone from the aircraft steps. If your airline changes your flight number, let the driver know.

Where your driver will be waiting

Both terminals have an arrivals hall where pre-booked drivers wait, often holding a name board. This meet and greet service is usually charged extras with small fee and offers good benefits. Airport rules mean private-hire cars generally can’t pull up and idle outside the terminal doors, so the meeting point is inside the hall or a short walk from it. Those arrangements change from time to time, so go by what your booking confirmation says, not what a friend told you last year.

A few things make the Dublin Airport pickup point easier to deal with:

  • Check your terminal. It’s on your flight confirmation, and the wrong terminal is the most common mix-up.
  • Screenshot the details. Driver name, phone number and meeting point, saved to your photos, so you’re not digging through emails on one bar of signal.
  • Stay put. Once you reach the meeting point, don’t circle the hall. A moving target is much harder to find than a stationary one.

Get your phone ready before you fly

Nothing fancy here. Make sure you’ll be able to send a message when you land, whether that’s roaming switched on, an eSIM sorted or the airport Wi-Fi as a fallback. Save your driver’s number in WhatsApp if you can. And charge the phone before you board, because a flat battery in the arrivals hall is a much bigger problem than a slow suitcase.

What to do once you’ve landed

  1. Switch off airplane mode and check for a message from your driver.
  2. If your bags are slow or the immigration queue is long, send a quick note. Two lines saves everyone guessing.
  3. Walk to the meeting point in your booking.
  4. If you can’t see your driver after a few minutes, call or message them instead of wandering.
  5. Ignore anyone who walks up offering a cheap taxi. You’ve already got a ride booked, and a licensed driver doesn’t tout for fares.

Travelling with family, or someone who needs extra time

If you’re landing with young children, elderly parents or anyone who’ll move slowly, say so at booking. A driver who knows to expect a longer walk from the gate, extra bags or a wheelchair will plan the meet-up differently. Wayszo has wheelchair-accessible vehicles, which you pick at the booking step, and larger vehicles for families and heavy luggage. It’s far easier to sort that in advance than at the kerb.

Pre-booked or straight to the rank?

Jumping in a rank taxi is perfectly fine, and plenty of people do. The trade-offs are queues at busy times, a metered fare you can’t know in advance, and toll charges on top for many routes. With a pre-booked fixed fare you know the price before you’ve left the house, and with Wayszo the M50 tolls are already included. You can see your price in advance with the Wayszo fare estimator. You also get a named driver, which makes it easy to know you’re climbing into the right car.

If your plans are loose, the rank works. If you’re landing late, travelling with kids or luggage, or you’d just like one decision fewer, book ahead. For more on timing, see our guide to booking a Dublin Airport taxi for early flights, and why paying after the trip takes some of the pressure off.
